TFI Creates Ford West Memorial Fund

WASHINGTON, March 30, 20201 — Ford B. West was a legend in the fertilizer industry, having spent over 35 years promoting, defending, and truly living in the industry. The Ford B. West Future Leaders program has been created to highlight Ford’s love of the industry, the people working in the industry and his friendly demeanor to all he met. West passed away on Feb. 14 following a 15-year medical adventure with prostate cancer. During his career at The Fertilizer Institute (TFI), Ford worked in membership, government affairs and policy and as the President.

TFI is asking industry members to step forward to make a gift to support this effort and honor this amazing leader. The goal of the campaign is $500,000, and it will run through June 2022. Every donation helps achieve the goal to lift up young leaders and support programs of a similar nature as they develop over time.

“Ford was passionate about the fertilizer industry, and he was passionate about young people and networking,” said TFI President and CEO Corey Rosenbusch. “This program will help lift young leaders and give them the connections and tools to further their careers for the betterment of the entire fertilizer industry.”

Donations can be made at online at the Nutrients for Life Foundation website or by sending checks to the Ford West Memorial Fund at 4201 Wilson Blvd., Suite 700, Arlington, VA  22203. TFI thanks you for honoring Ford B. West and his tireless work for the fertilizer industry.

Global Fertilizer Day is October 13

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) today announced that Tuesday, October 13 is Global Fertilizer Day, an annual event celebrated around the world by the fertilizer industry in an effort to educate people about the importance of the fertilizer industry, its contributions to feeding both the global population and the global economy, and encouraging students to explore the many fulfilling career paths available to them within the industry.

“We are extremely proud of the fertilizer industry’s global role and believe we are lucky to be able to not only feed the world by putting food on peoples’ tables, but to feed economies by providing important and fulfilling careers and working tirelessly to innovate to be good environmental stewards,” said TFI President and CEO Corey Rosenbusch. “We feed the world, we do it sustainably, and we are proud of the women and men working in our industry to make it all happen. It is an honor to celebrate them, and that’s what Global Fertilizer Day is all about.”

In years past, facilities have opened their doors to local school students, elected officials and the general public for facility tours and presentations. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 celebrations have gone mostly virtual.

“TFI and the Nutrients for Life Foundation (NFLF) are jointly hosting a virtual learning event on October 13 focused on workforce development by highlighting available career pathways in the fertilizer industry,” continued Rosenbusch. The learning event consists of interviews with six individuals working in the fertilizer industry and includes a live Q&A with students after each session. “The individuals we’ve chosen to highlight represent a broad swath of available careers within the industry and include product engineers, equipment operators, a chef and a top government affairs professional.”

With group gatherings and in-person events largely curtailed this year, TFI is also helping the industry spread the word through social media channels. “TFI has put together some interesting facts about the industry for companies to share through their channels, and also a few short and fun videos,” Rosenbusch concluded. “We’re excited to share with the world the wonderful and amazing contributions the fertilizer industry makes to feed economies and populations, and also to excite potential employees of the future about the possibilities within our industry.”

More information about the TFI/NFLF virtual learning event can be found here.

TFI Joins CLA and ARA to Announce Office Co-Location to Begin in 2021

WASHINGTON – The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) joined CropLife America (CLA) and the Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA) in announcing today that the three organizations will co-locate to Arlington, VA, beginning in January 2021. Each organization will retain its focus on the needs of its respective members, but the move is expected to create greater opportunities for collaboration that can enhance each organization’s efficiency and effectiveness. The organizations’ respective Boards of Directors approved this concept in separate votes last fall.

“Just as our respective industries continue to integrate and consolidate, so too are we pursuing innovative and efficient ways to operate,” said TFI President and CEO Corey Rosenbusch. “This new arrangement will facilitate enhanced communication and collaboration on common issues.”

“CLA is excited to join two of our agriculture allies to better serve our respective members and the agricultural industry through closer collaboration. Although we will maintain distinctly separate organizations, we look forward to sharing common services, which will result in measurable savings that can be used to bolster our programs that benefit our members. We look forward to working even more closely together with ARA & TFI,” said Chris Novak, CLA president and CEO.

“ARA’s members have identified the need to continually be more efficient with organizational resources,” said ARA President and CEO Daren Coppock. “By sharing an office space with CLA and TFI, we are able to be good stewards of our assets while applying cost savings to better serve our members through the work we do on their behalf.”

All three organizations will remain independent with no changes to their individual governance models.  TFI and CLA intend to relocate by January 2021, ARA intends to move March 2021.
