TFI: Nutrient Stewardship Support is an Overlooked Highlight of Farm Bill
WASHINGTON – The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) President & CEO Chris Jahn today applauded passage of the bi-partisan farm bill by the House and Senate and urged President Trump to act quickly to sign it into law.
“We’d have no farm bill if not for the excellent work done by Chairman Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas-11), and ranking members Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Rep. Collin Peterson (D-Minn.-7), to get this thing across the finish line,” said Jahn.
Jahn noted the passage of the farm bill is good news for the farm economy and includes many positives for the fertilizer industry and the farming customers TFI members serve, but that a key highlight for TFI is the inclusion of language supporting 4R nutrient stewardship. “TFI is leading a large-scale effort to encourage the widespread adoption of 4R nutrient stewardship, where farmers choose the Right source of fertilizer, applied at the Right rate, at the Right time and in the Right place.”
“Sustainability and environmental stewardship are keystones of our mission, and with the 4Rs we are walking the walk. We are extremely proud of our history of actively advocating for a program that is proven to both improve agricultural productivity and minimize impact to the environment,” said Jahn. “We are thrilled that Congress gets it and included it in the final legislation and we look forward to remaining engaged and educating policymakers, growers, conservationists and the public on the benefits and importance of 4R nutrient stewardship.”
