WASHINGTON, D.C., October 9, 2015 – Bill and Chris Heintz, owners of Heintz Farms near Lakeview, Ohio, and Kevin Doseck with Crop Production Services in Botkins, Ohio, are featured in a new 4R Field Report, recently released on YouTube.

In the report, the son pair describe how they apply the 4R nutrient management practices on their more than 20,000 acres of farmland. The key practices are:

  • Right source: match fertilizer type to crop needs
  • Right rate: match the amount of fertilizer to crop needs
  • Right time: make nutrients available when crops need them
  • Right place: keep nutrients where crops can use them

“It’s important to maximize production while minimizing environmental impact,” Bill says. “This is just one aspect of management the 4Rs address.”

The Heintzes and Doseck were honored earlier this year as one of five farming operations to be named 4R Advocates by The Fertilizer Institute and its 4R Nutrient Stewardship Program.
