WASHINGTON, July 20, 2017 — The Fertilizer Institute’s (TFI) President Chris Jahn today expressed TFI’s support for Indiana Agriculture Director Ted McKinney’s nomination to serve as the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs.
"American agriculture could not find a more knowledgeable and stronger advocate for this newly created position than Director McKinney,” said Jahn. “Director McKinney will bring unique experience to this position and quickly prove to be an asset to Secretary Perdue and the entire agriculture community.”
The U.S. fertilizer industry is one of the world’s largest, and makes a tremendous contribution to U.S. economic growth, employing American workers in manufacturing, wholesale, and retail agribusiness sectors. Our industry generates more than $154 billion in economic activity, and directly employs more than 88,000 Americans in quality high paying jobs.
“Farm profitability depends on many uncontrollable variables, such as weather and global market forces, said Jahn. “Now, more than ever, it is necessary to ensure that farmers have an advocate like Director McKinney.”
“Ted McKinney has a strong track record of working with stakeholders, and we believe that he will play a vital role in ensuring that American agriculture has the tools necessary to meet the many challenges ahead and continue growing the food, fuel, and fiber to feed the world. We urge the Senate to act quickly and confirm Ted McKinney as our next Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs."
