The Fertilizer Institute Testifies on Railroads' Common Carrier Obligation
The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) today testified before the Surface Transportation Board at a hearing on the railroads’ common carrier obligation. The hearing was held to discuss a variety of interests including the cost and safety issues related to the transportation of toxic-by-inhalation (TIH) materials such as anhydrous ammonia; service limitations resulting from a capacity-constrained rail environment; carrier-imposed requirements for infrastructure investments by shippers; and economically motivated service reductions. TFI Product Testing Data Receives Final International Government Approval
The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) today announced that the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) approved product testing data on nitric acid generated by TFI and the European Fertilizer Manufacturers Association (EFMA) for inclusion into an international database of chemicals. The approval came at an OECD Screening Information Data Sets Initial Assessment Meeting (SIAM) in Paris, France, last week and is the final step in a two-year long regulatory review. Acceptance of the data by the OECD concludes international reviews of the set of five product testing dossiers on 25 fertilizer materials, which was completed in 2003. Click here for more.
TFI Bolsters Government Relations Capabilities
The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) today announced the appointment of Katherine E. English to the position of vice president of government relations. English, who joined TFI this week, comes from the Capitol Hill Consulting Group, where she served as vice president and general counsel. The Fertilizer Institute Statement - Rail Transportation of Anhydrous Ammonia
The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) takes vigorous exception to a statement issued February 27 by the Association of American Railroads (AAR) pertaining to the House Homeland Security Committee’s consideration of draft legislation, the “Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Act of 2008.” The railroad association is calling on chemical companies to eliminate the manufacture of essential chemicals and has urged Congress to enact legislation to require such action.
