Andrew Margenot is a soil scientist and currently associate professor at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He completed his Ph.D. in Soil Science & Biogeochemistry at University of California Davis in 2016 on soil fertility in weathered soils of eastern Africa as a US Borlaug Fellow in Global Food. Dr. Margenot joined the faculty at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2017. He leads a research team that evaluates the biogeochemical mechanisms that underpin soil functions in cropping systems, with a focus on nutrient cycling, fertilizer use efficiency and nutrient loss reductions in the cropping systems of the US Midwest. In addition to research, teaching and extension duties, Margenot serves as Director of the Morrow Plots – the second-oldest continuous agricultural experiment in the world (est. 1876) and the newly established long-term Alma Mater Plots experiment. He is also Editor in Chief at Geoderma, and Associate Editor at Plant and Soil, European Journal of Soil Science, and Soil Use & Management.
